How to make your facial experience special
As licensed aestheticians, we strive to make each service feel like a truly special experience. Over the years, I’ve learned from many professionals and developed my own ideas on how to transform a facial service into a memorable facial experience. Here are some tips and tricks to add little luxuries to your treatments, elevating them to the ultimate experience.
Skin Consultations for everyone
Every client deserves a skin consultation before any service. This consultation not only provides clients with the information they need to address their skin concerns but also allows you to recommend more effective treatments, essential products, and a personalized treatment plan tailored to their desired results.
During the consultation, I invite the client into the facial treatment room and ask them to lie on the table. I cover their eyes with gauze and goggles, informing them that they will see a bright light. I then assess their skin based on what I observe, asking questions that help me gain a deeper understanding of their unique skin needs. After this assessment, I present my recommendations. Once I complete the consultation, I step out of the room to give the client time to relax and get comfortable on the table before the facial begins.
Incorporate Tools
Adding tools to a facial service can significantly enhance the overall experience. Simple additions like cold globes, gua sha, and facial cleansing brushes are effective upgrades that come at no additional cost. You can also offer enhancements for a small fee, such as microcurrent treatments, dermaplaning, or custom masks. You’ll be surprised at how these tools can make your clients feel special and pampered.
Add a Personal Touch with Aromatherapy
While scrolling through TikTok, I discovered a video featuring a woman who transformed her services by incorporating a towel infused with essential oils. She credits this simple addition with changing the game for her clients. I truly believe this would be the perfect finishing touch to your service. It reminds me of the cooling oil I used to apply to clients during my time at Aveda as part of an awakening treatment. Essential oils, like lavender, chamomile, and relaxation blends are perfect for the beginning of a Facial. Ask your client to take three deep breaths in and out, on the last breath press down on the head or shoulders and then begin cleansing. One of my favorite oils is lemon grass, it always seemed to brighten my clients mood. It is great to incorporate during or at the end of your facial.
Perfect your Facial Massage
Facial massage has the potential to relax your clients, often putting them right to sleep. I typically incorporate facial massage just before the masking step, using either a lightweight oil or the mask I plan to apply. While the medium you choose isn’t important, the techniques you use to help your clients fully relax, unclench their jaws, and release facial tension are crucial. There are many excellent videos demonstrating effective facial massage techniques, and I’ll be sharing one of my own soon!
Follow Up with Your Clients
Whether your clients mentioned they were attending a wedding or experienced a minor breakout, it’s essential to follow up with every client. A quick email or follow-up call can make a significant difference in their experience. Another thoughtful approach is to send a postcard, ensuring you include a personal note referencing something they shared while on the treatment table.
As I continue to brainstorm more ways to enhance your treatments and create memorable experiences, I’m considering turning this into a series to avoid making this blog post too lengthy. Whatever you decide to incorporate into your facials, always listen to your clients, address their skin concerns, and make them feel special by using their first name.
I hope you enjoyed this post, and I look forward to seeing you soon!
