Successful career paths as an esthetician
When you choose to become an esthetician, you often have a specific career path in mind. For me, the goal was to provide facials and transform lives through skincare. However, the field offers a wealth of diverse opportunities. Here are a few career options you might consider:
Head Spa Technician
I worked as a head spa technician, providing shampooing, conditioning, and scalp massages. If you have an interest in hair but don’t want to go back to cosmetology school, this role offers the best of both worlds. You can work with hair and scalp while also performing facials as part of your treatments, which can be offered at a premium price.
Lash Artist
I remember when eyelash extensions became incredibly popular. Everyone wanted them, but the application process could take over three hours. Fortunately, as estheticians gained experience, the time required for lash applications decreased significantly. Lash extensions are a creative way for clients to express themselves, providing them with instant results. They can wake up every day without the hassle of applying lash glue and worrying about it smudging.
Electrologist
An electrologist specializes in permanent hair removal and can also address issues like broken capillaries and moles. While you don’t need an esthetician license to become an electrologist, having a background in aesthetics can enhance your understanding of the craft and make it easier to start your own business if you choose to do so.
Esthetician Instructor
Passing on knowledge can take many forms. For me, it started with a blog aimed at helping fellow estheticians learn about the industry. Some professionals choose to become instructors, and while this was once a separate certification, it’s now included in your esthetician license. As an instructor, you can teach aspiring estheticians worldwide, igniting in them the same passion you discovered years ago.
Waxing Specialist
Similar to being an electrologist, waxing provides clients with quick results, whether they’re looking to remove hair from head to toe or just tidy up their brows and face. For those with a creative flair, becoming a brow artist can be particularly rewarding. Offering brow tinting and waxing can elevate your services and attract a different clientele.
No matter what path you choose, remember that there are always alternative routes if you ever feel bored or stagnant. You are never locked into one option. This is just the tip of the iceberg for what you can do with your esthetician license. There are countless opportunities, including owning your own business, becoming a spa manager, or even a spa director. The possibilities are vast, and I’ll be back soon to share more options. Goodbye for now!
